The book was giant in her small hands. A lurid picture of horror was splashed across the front cover, evil eyes peeking through her fingers. His fingers clicked as he picked up the gear; a soft ring of metal on metal. A soft polishing cloth kept the tips of his metal fingers from scratching the gear as he cleaned it, checking for snags along the teeth.
